Zinc oxide (also known as zinc oxide powder, zinc white, zinc white powder) is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula ZnO and a molecular weight of 81.39 g/mol. It is a white solid and a form of zinc oxide. It is insoluble in water but soluble in acids and strong bases. It can be obtained by burning zinc or roasting sphalerite (zinc sulfide). In nature, zinc oxide is the main component of the mineral zincite. There are two methods for making artificial zinc oxide: by oxidizing pure zinc or roasting zinc ore.
Zinc oxide is used as an additive in a variety of materials and products, including plastics, ceramics, glass, cement, lubricants[2], paints, ointments, adhesives, caulking materials, pigments, food (zinc supplements), batteries, ferrite materials, flame retardant materials[3] and medical first aid bandages.
